Ditch Store-Bought Hummus and Try Homemade (so easy!)

Let’s be honest for a second: store-bought hummus gets the job done when you’re in a pinch, but it has a secret. Check the back of that plastic tub, and you’ll usually find soybean oil, extra preservatives, and way more sodium than necessary.

Making your own hummus at home takes less than ten minutes, tastes so much fresher, and puts you in total control of what goes into your body. No filler, no mystery oils, no junk…just clean ingredients!

The Superpower of the Humble Chickpea

Chickpeas (aka garbanzo beans) are tiny nutrition powerhouses. When you blend them up, you’re stocking your fridge with a snack that actually works for you:

  • Plant-Powered Protein: Kept us full and fueled, making it the ultimate dip for veggies or a spread for wrap day.
  • Fiber Champion: Chickpeas are loaded with soluble fiber, which keeps digestion happy and keeps blood sugar levels nice and steady (no afternoon crash!).
  • Heart-Healthy Nutrients: Packed with magnesium, potassium, and iron to support overall energy and vitality.

Why Homemade Beats Store-Bought

Making it yourself isn’t just about avoiding preservatives; it’s about creating a dip that fits your taste buds perfectly.

  • 100% Clean Oils: Store brands swap out quality ingredients for cheap oils. At home, you get to use rich, heart-healthy Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
  • Customize the Flavor: Extra garlic? Extra lemon? A pinch of cayenne? Cater to your favorite flavors!
  • Easy to Make: It literally takes less than 10 minutes to make this hummus. All you need is a food processor!

Dip into the recipe below, grab your favorite sliced bell peppers, cucumbers, or warm pita, and enjoy a truly clean snack!

Easy Homemade Hummus

Ingredients

  • 16 oz can of chickpeas – or cook dry chickpeas
  • 1/4 cup of water
  • 2-3 tbsp fresh lemon juice about 1 large lemon (add more if you like it more lemony)
  • 1/3 cup tahini (stir this first since it separates)
  • 1 tsp garlic powder or 1-2 cloves of fresh garlic (chopped)
  • 3 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp ground cumin
  • 1/2-1 tsp salt ( I like sea salt)
  • 1/2-1 tsp smoked paprika (to taste)

Directions

  • Strain the liquid off from the can of chickpeas and rinse thoroughly
  • Combine all the ingredients, in the blender or food processor and blend until completely smooth. Make sure to scrape down the sides halfway through to get all the chunks out.

• • Transfer hummus into a bowl and top it off with a drizzle of some olive oil, dash of paprika or whatever seasoning you like!
